Lobuche Peak Climbing gives an exceptional taste of the Himalayas as you stand on the summit of Lobuche East (6119m) on the stunning peaks of the Khumbu region. This Lobuche East Peak Climbing is the third highest-selling trekking peak in Nepal. There are two different peaks under the same name of Lobuche – Lobuche East and Lobuche West. Both climbing peaks need a separate climbing permit. Among them, Lobuche East is the most popular climbing in Nepal.
This journey takes you through various Sherpa villages and Buddhist monasteries, sitting peacefully in the lap of the Khumbu Himalayas. Lobuche East Peak is considered more trekking by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. Hence it can be conquered by any mountain lover without prior climbing experience. However, one must be physically fit before taking on this adventure.
The Lobuche Peak Climbing starts from the country’s capital, Kathmandu, and goes through the Khumbu region’s highs and lows and ups and downs. The scenic flight to Lukla, with an aerial view of the Himalayan ranges, marks the start of your journey in the wilderness. Walk through the silent forests to the village of Phakding as the trail continues through the alpine forests of Sagarmatha National Park en route to Namche, the Gateway of Everest. The trek passes through different rivers, bridges, and diverse vegetation. The trail also provides an opportunity to look into the Buddhist culture of the Himalayas as it takes you to Tengboche Monastery, which holds high cultural value to the Sherpas of the region. Passing through many small Sherpa settlements, the trail leads to Everest Base Camp, adorned with incredible views of various peaks like Nuptse (7861m), Pumori (7161m), Lingtren (6749m), and Khumbutse (6636m). The vista of Everest (8848m), glimmering in all its glory, seen from the summit of Lobuche Peak, is bound to leave anyone awe-struck.

A mountain climbing experience in Nepal can never be easy. And Lobuche Peak climbing is one of the highest trekking peaks in Nepal, so you cannot imagine it to be easy. However, since this is a practice peak for 8,000+ mountains, you can complete it with little guidance. And after conquering Lobuche Peak, the trekkers can climb other higher mountains as well.
The Lobuche East, as a trekking peak, is moderately complex. The trails can be harsh for newcomers with zero experience. At the same time, the professionals might find it less challenging.
One of the most complex parts of this Lobuche trek is climbing a 45-degree snow wall from High camp to Lobuche summit, which is 50 m high. You will be using technical gear to do the climb. Climbing with fixed ropes, the crampons make it more accessible.
However, since we walk on the classic Everest Base Camp route for the first ten days, our bodies shall be quite well adapted. This extended route helps us cope with the difficulties of altitude and distance before we begin the actual Lobuche Peak climbing.
Check Everest Gokyo Ri Trek for a fantastic view of Everest and the glacier Lakes.
Yes, Lobuche East Climb is quite technical. Since this is an actual mountain above 6,000 meters, you need all mountaineering skills. However, you don’t need to learn all of these Lobuche East Climb skills in advance. Once you are in Nepal, our guide will train you for the climb. If required, we will take an additional day at Lobuche Base Camp to train ourselves in mountain climbing skills. You shall learn to use ropes, axes, and crampons. These Mountaineering gears are mostly needed when the snow is thick.
Yes, you can see Everest from Lobuche. The aerial distance between Lobuche and Everest is only 12.1km. During the trek, you can see Everest right from Namche Bazaar until you are back in Lukla. From the Lobuche summit, Everest Peak looks quite magical. However, MyEverestTrip Lobuche Trek Itinerary first goes to Everest Base Camp and then to Lobuche. This means you can enjoy a fantastic view of Everest right from its foot.
Lobuche Peak climbing costs about $2150 when you book the package. In addition, you will need a few hundred dollars extra of your own. If you cannot afford this, check out our cheaper travel package in Nepal, like the Langtang Valley trek.
Yes, the government issues the permit for Solo mountain climbers as long as a licensed guide accompanies you. As Lobuche is not a restricted trekking region, you don’t need to be in a group of two people. However, since you will be accompanied by a guide (Sherpa) and porters, Solo travellers will be safe. And trust us; you won’t be bored
Lobuche Peak is 6119m above sea level, while Lobuche Base Camp is 4,950m. In between these two camps, there’s Lobuche High Camp which is 5,400 meters above grade. There’s no human settlement beyond Lobuche Village, and you will stay in tents.
You must have travel insurance before booking Lobuche Peak climbing from MyEverestTrip. No travel agency in Nepal has the provision of providing travel insurance to their trekkers. And, even after a lot of precaution and preparation, there is a high chance of being sick from the altitude. In that case, you might need a helicopter evacuation which is covered by your travelling insurance. Also, it covers other medical and theft during the trek in Nepal.
Lobuche Peak climbing is an actual mountain climb that demands good skills in mountaineering and gear use. The climbers must use gears such as crampons, ropes, and axes. The guides help you fix the ropes and make the path so that you can climb quickly.
There are two significant peaks for climbing, i.e., Lobuche East and Lobuche West. Trekkers climb from the south ridge, which is easier to climb. Being a trekking peak, Lobuche difficultly is graded as a “Moderate” level climb. You will be making many uphill and downhill climbs on this trek. You can start with Annapurna Base Camp Trek if you have never done a high-altitude hike.
Lobuche Peak is at a very extreme altitude of 6,119 meters above sea level. The oxygen level drops to less than half at this height, and you will find breathing highly uncomfortable. The initial part of the journey around Everest base camp gives you a lot of time so that you don’t feel the symptoms of altitude. Even then, you may experience difficulty beyond Lobuche Base Camp. The development of symptoms like body pain, headache, shortness of breath, and Nausea is quite common as you move to a higher altitude. If the symptoms are typical, we must stop for a few hours and let the body adapt.
Although our guides have some oxygen cylinders, they might not be enough for long-term use. So you must be careful to keep yourself relaxed and hydrated. However, if the symptoms of altitude sickness start to get severe, we will climb to a lower altitude. In the worst case, we call for helicopter evacuation, which your insurance covers.
Lobuche Peak climbing can only be done in Autumn and Spring. Autumn has a temperature of about five Degrees Celsius in Lobuche, while the nights are still freezing. Spring in Lobuche, i.e., March, April, and May, makes an excellent time for a mountain climb. This is the peak season for all-mountain climbers in Nepal, i.e., even Mount Everest is very crowded. The snow is less, and the chances of rainfall are low. It’s also among the warmest month for mountain climbing.
Lobuche peak climb cannot be done in summer and winter. June, July, and August are the months for the highest rainfall and snowfall. On the other hand, Winter, i.e., September, October, and November, are full of snowfall. This makes the Lobuche East Peak trail very slippery. So, even if the government issues the Lobuche Peak East climb permit, it’s wise not to attempt it in the wrong season. Trekking, while the weather is not stable, might even kill you. So, instead, go for a low-altitude trek like Everest Short Trek.
Lobuche East peak climbing cost is $2150. The camping accommodation and many staff make Lobuche East Peak climbing quite expensive. However, because other 8,000-meter climbs as the Mount Everest expedition, cost over $20,000, Lobuche East Peak is relatively cheap.
Firstly, we must fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, which costs about $320. Then, Lobuche East Peak follows the classic Everest Base Camp trek up to Lobuche until the 10th day. This means you can stay in comfortable local lodges and enjoy various food. Accommodation here costs $6 to $8; you will stay in tents at Lobuche Base Camp and Lobuche High Camp for three days. Due to this tented accommodation, we need to hire an additional porter and cook, making Lobuche Peak’s climbing cost high. Furthermore, there’s the cost of a guide ( Sherpa) who makes the trek possible. Next, the permit for Lobuche Trek is also high.
Even as an independent traveler who doesn’t book the MyEverestTrip package, you pay about $2500. Solo mountain climbing is expensive, and we recommend traveling in larger groups.
You will require an entry permit from the National Mountaineering Association to make the Lobuche climb. The NMA has classified Lobuche East as Trekking Peak and Lobuche West as Expedition Peak. Permits are needed for both of these Lobuche Peak climbing.
You can apply for the permit but must hire a licensed mountain guide. Then, you will need a detailed Lobuche climb Itinerary, insurance paper, and other personal documents to complete the application form. Once your application is approved, you can go to Lobuche for the climb.
Along with the Lobuche Climbing permit from NMA, you need two other permits, i.e., the Pasang Lambu Khumbu Local area permit and the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit. The Khumbu Local Area permit can be taken once you get to Lukla, costing $20. And the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit can be received at the gate in Monjo. You don’t need to about these permits from Kathmandu itself.
